Valve on the Wii?

May 1, 2008

Valve Corporation, creators of such FPS mainstays as the Half Life and Counter-Strike series as well as the Steam content-delivery system, have delivered some of the finest gaming experiences this side of Black Mesa in their decade-long history. Now, word comes out that the company might be looking to ditch the guns and grit - temporarily, mind you - in the goal of creating an original title for the Wii.

According to CVG UK, Valve vice president of marketing Don Lombardi has witnessed the console's strong impact on families of the Valve staff, and a Wii game for their kids wouldn't be too far of a stretch to imagine. "We all play the Wii a lot and we think that the proper way for Valve to approach the Wii would be to make something cool designed specifically for it. I mean, I'm not making any announcements, but there's a lot of desire internally to do something for kids, do something on the Wii."

Again, nothing is official and this idea is still all based on a prominent Valve employee speaking with a video-game publication, but Wii owners starved for new and creative content on the console can certainly dream a little. A lot of desire? That's what I like to hear! Oh, while we're on the topic of dreams, maybe some of the development time could be slotted towards a Wii version of Portal. You know, just throwing that out there.
