THQ Studios Face Cutbacks

April 30, 2008

Two of THQ's studios may soon be shadows of their former selves after planned reductions take place. According to play.tm, Rainbow Studios cut thirty developers from an undisclosed project in mid-April while "large lay-offs" are expected to hit Sandblast Games this week.

Rainbow continues to operate on projects with a "cut-down team," and Sandblast still plans to complete Destroy All Humans! Path of the Furon for Xbox 360 and PS3, though each studio's future past those projects is unclear at this point. Unsubstantiated online chatter hints at a possible closure for Sandblast, though we won't know anything official until THQ addresses these rumors.

Rainbow Studios is most famously know for the MX franchise, which includes MX vs. ATV Unleashed, and early PS2 titles such as Splashdown and ATV Off-Road Fury. Sandblast's staff includes industry vets from EA and Nintendo, and the studio developed GameCube's Red Faction II among other notable titles.
